About Boudewijn van Eijck

Boudewijn started working as a lawyer in Rotterdam in 1987. He had been with us as a partner since 1994. Recently, on 1 July 2023, he stepped down as a lawyer and partner. He is now attached to our firm as an advisor, to share his years of experience and expertise with us where necessary.

In his (inter)national litigation practice, Boudewijn has very regularly acted in major fraud and environmental criminal cases and in criminal cases resulting from calamities in the industrial and utility construction sectors, among others. In recent decades, he has successfully represented several large companies in large-scale cases, such as the bunker oil cases in the Port of Rotterdam, the national construction fraud case, the collapsed balcony case in Maastricht, the fire at a waste disposal company in Drachten and subsidy cases at agricultural and horticultural companies. In these cases, he regularly advised clients’ boardrooms.

Boudewijn was also instrumental in providing legal assistance to police officers in shooting and other violent incidents. He was therefore a member of the National Police’s lawyer pool for a long time. In addition, he has specialised in the field of medical criminal law since 2008 and has frequently acted for (academic) hospitals and doctors.

Internationally, Boudewijn has several times been part of a global team of lawyers defending foreign companies in the Netherlands and Dutch companies abroad. His last major Dutch criminal case with international features was the MH17 case, in which he assisted, together with office colleague Sabine ten Doesschate, the only defendant who was acquitted.

Education and career

Boudewijn van Eijck was one of the founders of our firm in 1992. He has always practised from our Rotterdam office. He was a member of the Supervisory Board of the Rotterdam Bar Association from 2001 to 2006.

Boudewijn studied commercial law in Leiden. After graduating in 1986, he worked in Madrid for a year at Philips Iberica S.A. In 1987, he started working as a lawyer at Dutilh van der Hoeven & Slager (now Nauta Dutilh) in Rotterdam. He followed the postgraduate specialisation course in criminal law at the Willem Pompe Institute of Utrecht University.

Boudewijn is a regular speaker at seminars and (international) conferences and has been a lecturer in the professional training for lawyers for many years. Besides the legal profession, his heart lies with sports. Among other things, he is active as a hockey trainer and coach. He also makes film documentaries, mainly in the genres of sports and crime, in which sector – in addition to his advisory work for our firm – he works as a professional. His first film documentary Amore Infinito, about the Giro d’Italia, was selected as the opening film of the Sport Film Festival in Rotterdam in 2020.
