Sophie Stevens

Sophie Stevens (admitted to the Bar in 2017) joined our firm in September 2017 and works from our office in The Hague. She has extensive experience in assisting legal and natural persons in both general and financial-economic criminal cases. These include complex fraud and environmental cases, as well as traffic and Opium Act-related cases. In addition, she regularly provides legal assistance in proceedings relating to the confiscation of illegally obtained assets and handles criminal cassation cases.

Education, career and ancillary positions

Sophie graduated from the Free University of Amsterdam in 2014, specializing in Criminal (Procedural) Law. After graduating, Sophie started her professional career as a court secretary at the criminal law section of the District Court of The Hague. Subsequently, as a secretary at the Court of Appeal of Amsterdam, she was involved in handling many criminal cases on appeal, including large-scale fraud and environmental cases as well as confiscation proceedings. 

For the Tijdschrift voor Sanctierecht & Onderneming (Sanctions Law & Company Magazine), Sophie writes the current affairs section 'Economic criminal law: environment' as a permanent contributor. In addition, she provides training as part of the continuing education programme for lawyers. Previously, Sophie was associated with the SDU Commentaar op het Wetboek van Strafvordering (SDU Commentary on the Code of Criminal Procedure) as an author. Sophie is a member of the Dutch Association of Young Defence Counsel (NVJSA).

Sophie is listed in the area of law register of the Dutch Bar Association as a specialist in the field of Criminal Law. This specialisation for instance includes:

- Financial-economic criminal law;
- fiscal criminal law;
- international criminal law;
- environmental criminal law.

Furthermore, she is listed as a specialist in Cassation Procedures (criminal law).

In accordance with the standards of the Dutch Bar Association, Sophie Stevens annually obtains at least ten educational credits in the field of these specialisations.
